Ask the Plastic Surgeon: Two breast procedures in one surgery is fine

Question: Can I have a breast lift at the same time as a breast augmentation (enlargement)?

Answer: Yes, in fact it’s become almost standard as nearly 50 percent of our patients will often need a lift with an augmentation. We know not all plastic surgeons feel comfortable performing these procedures together, so often they will split them, which then requires two separate surgeries and two recoveries. In fact, patients are surprised to find recovery is much easier than they expected. Keep in mind that there are also different types of breast lifts and this depends on the patient’s individual needs and desires. The type of breast lift (mastopexy) would be determined at a consultation, but we always try and balance the needs of our patients in order to give them the least possible scarring without compromising their beautiful result. Women whose breasts have become droopy, or lost volume, (from weight change, nursing or gravity) generally do require a small lift and implant combination to get the desired cleavage and prettier shape that looks more youthful. That said, patients (and their significant others) rarely complain about scarring after surgery. Breast lift scars are very well tolerated and fade, but their new great shape is beautiful and long-lasting.
